Hello again guys. Thankfully we have a new forum where we all can enjoy things together and keep the hobby pure from days of old.

Speaking of old, this is 1jdub standing in the huge shadow of the Von Erich's down here in Texas! I am older than most around these parts. My favorite wrestling era was not the Monday Night Wars. Not the Attitude Era. My favorite era was the hottest time in pro wrestling. That era was known as Texas Rasslin'. The Territory Days, that is my favorite era.

Back in the days when Texas was red hot, the 2 booking offices were in Dallas & Houston owned by Jack Adkisson. The men from an office/business/dollars stand point were Red Bastien, Ed Mclemore, but the main man was Playboy Gary Hart! The majar promotions were in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area called World Class Championship Wrestling run by Fritz Von Erich, San Antonio was run by Joe Blanchard called SouthWest Championship Wrestling. NWA Houston was run by (book me a world champion) Mr. Paul Boesch. The Amarillos was run by The Funks was called Western States. El Paso was run by the Guerreros. Each promotion had a great working relationship with All Japan Pro-Wrestling owned by Shoei Baba & New Japan Pro-Wrestling owned by Antonio Inoki. Each territory was under the banner of the NWA~National Wrestling Alliance. Each territory battled for the NWA WCCW innovated alot of what you see today! Many of the biggest names in wrestling history came from the Texas Territory such as...

Fritz, Kevin, David, & Kerry Von Erich, who in 1966 began feuding with Gary Hart and his stable of wrestlers (which at this time included Karl Von Brauner, Karl Krupp, Al Costello and the masked Spoilers); the feud between Hart and Fritz (and his sons) would continue off and on for more than two decades. Fritz's other classic rivalries during this early period were with such stars as Johnny Valentine, Stan Stasiak, Professor Toru Tanaka, Ox Baker, Lord Alfred Hayes, The Sheik, Bruiser Brody,Rocky Johnson, Killer Karl Kox, Duke Keomuka, Haystacks Calhoun, Ernie Ladd, Bobo Brazil, and The Great Kabuki. Babyface wrestlers playing secondary roles in the promotion at various times included Wahoo McDaniel, Pepper Gomez, Red Bastien, Jose Lothario and Lonnie "Moondog" Mayne, Alberto Madril, Dusty Rhodes, Black Jack Mulligan, Dory, Dory Jr, and Terry Funk, Stan Hansen, The Spoiler, Great Kabuki, The Freebirds, Andre The Giant, Big John Studd, Kamala, Abdullah the Butcher, Austin Idol, Mil Máscaras, General Skandor Akbar, Tully Blanchard, Killer Brooks, Bruiser Brody, Scott Casey, Tiger Conway Jr., Eric Embry, Manny Fernandez, Gino Hernandez, the Iron Sheik, Bob Orton Jr., Al Perez, Tito Santana, Jimmy Snuka, Brett and Buzz Sawyer, Wild Bull Curry, Bob Sweetan, the Sheepherders and Jonathan Boyd, Dick Slater,King Kong Bundy, "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin, "Iceman" King Parsons,The Missing Link, Maniac Mark Lewin, Wild Bill Irwin, Frank Dusek, The Super Destroyer, The Superstar, Bugsy McGraw, Jumbo Tsuruta, Apache Bull Ramos, Mongolian Stomper, Bad Leroy Brown, England's Chris Adams, Nick Bockwinkel would be brought in from time to time to defend his American Wrestling Association (AWA) world heavyweight title, and both NWA World Heavyweight Champions Harley Race & The Nature Boy Ric Flair.

Some of the most famous announcers of the past were Bill mercer, Steve Stack, Marc Lowrance, and the great Boyd Pierce.

Major titles were, The NWA World Heavyweight Championship, American Heavyweight Championship, NWA World Tag-Team Championship, Texas Heavyweight Championship, All Asia Heavyweight Championship, NWA International Heavyweight Championship, South-West Heavyweight Championship, Various TV Championships, and various Brass Knuckles Championships and many many more.

The World Class Wrestling era soon became popular around the world. Fans from Japan to Israel would pack the arenas to see World Class Wrestling. It was known for its gutsy and unusual matches such as strap matches, six man tag matches, hair matches, barbwire matches, cage matches, lumberjack matches, the battle royal, and yes even a mud match. They came out with clothes ripped and juicing and brawled in the ring. Wrestlers than charged the ring for a pull-apart brawl! That was the biggest pop!! This era set the stage for Wrestling to be what it is today by having a good beginning, a middle, and a great ending.

So to any rookies, get to know the belts from all of the promotions and pick your favorites. We Have! Enjoy BeltTalk.com
