Kayfabe Section?

Post by beltempire » Fri Oct 21, 2016 8:02 pm

Would you like to see a true kayfabe section where the collectors we are always told about but never see because they'd get too many questions can post pictures of their collection anonymously?

But if it was a true kayfabe section there wouldn't be anything in it. :D

Ok so lets think of it more of an anonymous place where the "best collections" can be seen but people can't bother the owner.

On the old board it was always said the biggest reason the big collectors wouldn't share what they had is because of the general bitching and envy that comes up. This section would allow people to show their collection without having to worry about people finding out who they are.

And the Facebook groups, the bootleg makers, and the entitlement collectors have made it even worse.

These guys don't want their shit being out there in the public. You guys were lucky Dan Lambert shared on the old site, and that was mostly due to the newspaper article.

Due to jealousy?

That collection was great. Dan also seemed alright talking to people about it. But it's always been said dating back to the old site the biggest reason is people don't want others knowing what they own so that they aren't bothered by collectors/bootleggers/whatever. So how would an anonymous portion of the site impact them?

I would just say that Dan should probably make the possible Kayfabe section here the same as it was on the older site, with *zero* changes to its purpose.

I say no. People continue to ask questions even though they "appear" to have good intentions.

How? Under a fake name? People will still ask questions and I doubt people would want to create another account just to post their belts.

You want this section but you're not really providing a way/solution that will attract members to post.

People would still be able to connect owners to belts even if they post anonymously or have them posted through someone like Dan. Either through connecting the dots from other belts posted, how the photos are taken, the background, etc. Plus, some people just don't want photos out there regardless of anonymity. If people wanna show them, they'll show them. No offense empire, but I doubt you have anything to offer to a kayfabe section, so this comes off as you just wanting to see kayfabed belts.

I guess that's where we disagree. I don't personally care one way or the other I've always read how belttalk is supposed to be the premier site for the goodness of belt collecting yet it's rare to really see much posted here that can't be found elsewhere. Heck I've seen photos other places by the face that runs this place that I haven't seen here. When people ask they're told that the best collections are kept kayfabe since the owners prefer not to be bothered which I can understand. If Dan were to post in a section that was locked I don't really see how that could be a bother but maybe I'm wrong. If everybody that submitted, for instance took a picture in front of a blank wall and sent it to Dan and he posts 30 photos for instance, are people really going to dig through potentially thousands of photos looking for a wallpaper or paint color? No need to take personal shots at me or my collection. I'm just trying to do something that actually gives members here a chance to see what is talked about but until now nobodys proposed a way for it to be seen.

You need to try to understand what a pain in the ass it is to get harrassed by people. I mean, serisously, I don't have much special in my collection at all. I have 2 real belts and a bunch of figs replicas. I've never posted pictures of my real belts because whenever I've posted pictures of my replicas people always try to pressure a sale, and the shit I've dealt with is just over the common figs replicas that are always popping up for sale here and there. I can't imagine how much more you get harrassed when you show off the real stuff that actually is rare, special, and valuable. And yes, I do believe that there are people out there that are crazy enough to sort through the pictures and try to connect the dots as to who owns what. Most of us won't, most of us have better things to do with our time, but it only takes one jackoff to ruin it. And there's always at least one jackoff, usually more because they flock together.

The problem isn't just people wanting to remain anonymous and unbothered though. Pictures get stolen and then the bootleggers rip off the artwork and start making belts that they don't have a license to make. And most of those are extremely shitty quality wise, so not only are they ripping off the belt designers by copying artwork without licensing it but they're really also ripping off their consumers by selling piss-poor quality products; usually to consumers who don't know any better until after they've been duped.

Part of the issue is trying to protect people's privacy, but part of it is also trying to protect the few areas of the hobby that haven't already been bastardized. You want to see rare, special stuff? Keep your eyes open, they do pop up from time to time. But people aren't going to show stuff off just to show it off. Not anymore, all the jackoffs have ruined that part of the hobby.

Brosef, no one here is really taking a personal shot at you or your collection. This is just something that unfortunately has more cons than pros. A lot of people are turned off to the idea of sharing their kayfabe collections because of the various reasons people have explained here already. It's just beating a dead horse. If Dan would have thought that this was a good idea, then he probably would have added the section.

Let's just move on.

Case in point would be Gators Hogan Mystery Belt. 2 days after those pics were posted people had artwork drawn up. Once it gets posted online, or shared with one person, you can guarantee that kayfabe will be broken. I think a lot of people are taking for granted how lax certain things have gotten. Just look at the constant flow of Jmars Dan has for sale. Just a few years ago, you would've NEVER seen a big eagle, or undisputed, or WWE tag belts up for sale publicly. A lot of stuff that one would think would be kayfabed have been made for sale publicly, and we're all lucky for that. Hell, a lot of those are belts I'd never have any interest in owning but its still cool to see a picture or two get posted when they pop up for sale.

@Jones if you were anonymously posting photos it'd probably be harder for people to ask you about selling right? As for stolen photos you can do things to digitally prevent them from being copied. And if people go through that much effort to bother somebody they should be banned.

@Kuest actually Broski took a clean shot at both me and my collection by saying "but I doubt you have anything to offer to a kayfabe section, so this comes off as you just wanting to see kayfabed belts." Just because he said no offense doesn't mean it's not a jab.

@Broski I understand the Hogan belt issue. But to be fair those were posted openly and no precaution such as watermarking the pics was taken. They were posted in a manner that allowed for them to be reproduced. Nothing you can do there. A while back photos were posted in such a way that reproducing them wouldn't be easy. The Undisputed became public knowledge when the original owner "broke kayfabe" so to speak. You say "Hell, a lot of those are belts I'd never have any interest in owning but its still cool to see a picture or two get posted when they pop up for sale." That's EXACTLY the point of this thread that you're arguing against.

I think everyone should just be able to allowed to enjoy this hobby. It's sad that a few bad apples have really wreaked the havoc they've been able to. I certainly understand Ring Used stuff not being posted openly sometimes. But I remember on the old forum the Ring Used Big Eagle owner ;) asked for photos that were posted elsewhere online be removed. If the photos have been posted elsewhere what should it matter at that point? In fact in searching for a different belt the photos that were removed by a poster on belttalk were the 4th search result and that was a result of a different webpage. I guess I'm in the minority here wanting to see people share the best collections out there anonymously and safely on this website rather than seeing this stuff pop up in web searches or other sites.

You just named more reasons why it's not happening.

Don't take cheap shots on what I claim this site to be as a way of egging me on. I don't give a flying fuck if you think we are not the premier site, but you are dead wrong considering nearly everything that you claim to have seen on Google or Facebook or other websites did in fact originate here. People obviously couldn't be trusted so for example when Adam got sour he posted pictures he shouldn't have, in a place outside here.

There is 30+ people from this place who have met me in person at various events that know I am legit and this place is legit. This site opens tons of opportunities for people to see and own belts they never seen or known about.

I think you would be included in these types of events and picture sharing if you weren't always so anonymous. You been here for years and people know nothing about you. Someone told me you were Asian. I said I had no idea. It's very tough to share secrets with people who continue to be vague themselves.

Beltempire,

I completely looked past Broski's comments as being an attack. They are his opinion and just that.

Don't let people get to you bro, it's just that this is a sore subject.
